3 COR Warriors Virtual Run

Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community.

Anthony J. D’Angelo

“If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.” Join us on this virtual fun run!   -John Bingham

On Friday, February 24, 2017, 3 COR (Colorado Obstacle Racer) members; Ellie, Kym and Corrina, were heading to Arizona to participate in the Spartan Races. Unfortunately, none of them made it to the race. These 3 women were hit from behind by an alleged drunk driver while driving to the race. Kym and Ellie both suffered severe injuries while Corrina unfortunately died at the scene. After being in a New Mexico hospital for 2 weeks, Ellie & Kym are finally back in Colorado recovering. Their journey for a full recovery is still not over but the joy of having them back in Colorado around family and friends to help definitely is.

For anyone that has or known someone that has been in any type of accident, you know the financial stress that comes with recovery. We at COR are a family and are doing whatever we can to help these surviving ladies and their families during this trying time.

All profits from this virtual run will be disbursed evenly between the 3 families affected by this accident.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS A VIRTUAL RUN, ANYWAY?
Ok, so here’s the deal. A virtual run is a race just like any other, except there’s no official race location. You register for the race and then you run during the designated race period: when you want, where you want, whatever distance you want; and then just submit the results when you’re done (on the convenient online form that I’ll send out). All the results will be complied and sent out to all participants after the race is over. Any pictures or stories to accompany your official time are encouraged as well!

WHEN IS IT?:
The official time frame is Monday, May 1 thru Sunday, June 4. However, we will be selling these medals until they are all gone.

WHAT DO I DO?:
In order to participate, all you need to do is register for the race, send payment via PayPal (make sure to click friends and family so their isn’t any fee), run it at any point and then submit your results. (Along with any pictures or stories about the experience you’d like to share).

WHAT DO I GET/ WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?:
Every race participant gets an official 3 COR Warriors finisher’s medal. That, plus the satisfaction of knowing that the your entry fee is being donated directly to the 3 COR Warriors and their families.

WHAT IS OCR & COR?
OCR
, Obstacle Course Racing, is a community of athletes that compete by overcoming various physical challenges that are in the form of obstacles. Mud and trail runs are combined and the races are designed to result in mental and physical collapse. Obstacles include, but are not limited to, climbing over walls, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water, crawling under barbed wire and jumping through fire. OCR races include Spartan Races, Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, Rugged Maniac, OCR Worlds and Battlefrog to name a few. This isn’t just a community of racers but a FAMILY of racers. Even though we can be competitive at these events, we NEVER leave anyone behind. We are there to motivate, support and help push one another through these obstacles, because it is always easier when you have a team behind you.

COR, Colorado Obstacle Racers, is a chapter of the OCR community. This group is based all around Colorado and is comprised of about 1800 members. These members aren’t just friends but each others family. They train together, travel together and race together. No man is ever left behind. When a team member is in need we come together to help them out.

To further prove our point about getting on board with giving back, we encourage our participants to use the app Charity Miles.

Charity Miles is a free iPhone/android smartphone app that uses your phone’s gps to track your run/walk/bike ride. This NYC based company (Charity Miles) is dedicated to raising money to be donated to charity, at the rate of $0.25/ mile run (or walked) They have secured corporate partners who are willing to donate money to any one of a multitude of “approved charities’ (identified in the app) based on the amount of miles run/walked/biked. They designed the app specifically to track everything and keep it all legit. We love it and the fact that A.) it does not cost  anything to use it and B.) even though it’s free, it still puts you in a position to raise funds for a charity and make a difference. Who doesn’t love donating other people’s money to great causes.(ha) We know we don’t give it full justice, but why not leverage the running, walking, biking or racing you will be out there doing anyway to generate some funds and make an impact. You can find their main website HERE. We are strongly encouraging all of 3 COR Warriors participants to use it while they run the race.

We hope you consider running with us for this Virtual Run.
